“Passionate people are usually very good at their job. Dr. Tinnin is the epitome of passionate in her teaching. Two of my children have been tutored by Dr. Tinnin for over three years. During each visit, each child ha individual lesson plans tailored to their interests, strengths and weaknesses. She has been an invaluable resource to us as we navigate the IEP process. She collaborates with the kids’ teachers and attends IEP meetings when needed. Our children have made rapid gains to reading on grade level since starting with Dr. Tinnin. We wholeheartedly would recommend Dr. Tinnin again and again to anyone with a child struggling with reading.”
“My 9 year old daughter has been working with Dr. Tinnin for about 9 months. We had worked with two other reading tutors without much success before meeting with Dr. Tinnin. Our teacher recommended her and we’ve had a really great experience. My daughter has a hard time warming up to new adults, and Dr. Tinnin respected that while developing a relationship with her. A large part of my daughter’s reading difficulty was her confidence level. Dr. Tinnin worked to build her confidence while also building her reading skills. Dr. Tinnin has gone out of her way to find books that are related to topics my daughter likes and to find ways to connect with her. She puts a lot of planning into activities that are interesting and really personalizes her reading sessions. One of the things I appreciate most is that she gets to know the students and finds out the reasons behind the difficulty in order to accurately address it. She works with my daughter’s teacher so they can continue some of the strategies at school. We have seen great improvements that her teachers have noticed as well. She has continued to enjoy reading throughout the process and we all couldn’t be happier with our experience.”
“Dr. Tinnin is an outstanding teacher. She is skillful, humble and passionate about what she teaches. She taught my son how to improve his writing skills not just during the course, but also beyond. I highly recommend her. She is a teacher that goes the extra mile for the students. My 14 year old’s writing skills improved dramatically over the last couple of months. Her class is something that he looks forward to waking up every Saturday morning. Thank you, Dr. Tinnin, for sharing your knowledge and passion with my son in your class. I really feel proud and happy that I know you.”
“My teenage daughter, Olivia, has worked with Paula for the past four years. In that time she has gone from not liking school, low confidence and making average grades to loving school, great confidence in her learning and making A’s. Paula has figured out her learning style and has taught her many valuable techniques to help her succeed. Paula also knows how to ask questions to help Olivia figure out the solution on her own, from there they build on whatever concept they are tackling. Our relationship with Paula has been a true blessing for Olivia and our family.”
“By the end of first grade, our very verbal son who knew all his letters and sounds since he was two years old just stopped trying to read. We had never heard the term twice exceptional, but we knew that something was very wrong that we couldn’t fix on our own. Then we found Dr. Paula. He had his first session with her the first week of second grade. Within a month of weekly one-hour sessions, he was not only reading again, he was reading above grade level when he had finished the previous year below. She knew just how to engage him to reach his potential. His interest was back, but more importantly his confidence was back. She is skilled at identifying his strengths and weaknesses and she pairs them together in her sessions to create growth while not pushing him past his threshold. He now knows that he learns differently than most people and he’s actually proud of the way his brain works.
Our son just turned 9 and is in third grade in a traditional public school classroom. He sees Dr. Paula for one 45-minute session weekly. They mainly work on reading and writing, but have also touched on other subjects as needed. He’s also a voracious reader carrying around no less than six books a day on a wide range of topics. At his last school assessment for his most recent struggling academic category, he surpassed the goals set for him and tested at the level they want him by the end of the year (six months ahead of schedule). Our daughter is 6 and in first grade. While she does not experience the same 2E struggles as her brother, she has also greatly benefited from 45-minute sessions with Dr. Paula every other week.
I can’t say enough about what Dr. Paula has done for our son and our family.”
